Job summary

The Ministry of Education New Zealand in Auckland is seeking a Speech Language Therapist to join our Learning Support team. This permanent role focuses on understanding and supporting children’s speech, language and communication needs in homes, schools and communities.

You will collaborate with parents, carers, teachers and other specialists in a trans-disciplinary setting to deliver practical support and interventions. Applications close 24 September 2026.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Speech-Language Therapy.
• Specialist knowledge of theory, research and practice related to speech-language, child, and human development, and learning and behaviour.
• Ability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information.
• Ability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings.
• The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
• The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Responsibilities

• Understand the impact of children and young people’s communication needs in home, education setting and community.
• Collaborate with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other specialists to support development of speech, language and communication skills.
• Work holistically as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex.
