Job summary

The Education Services Group in Henderson, West Auckland, seeks a Speech-Language Therapist for a permanent full-time role within the Learning Support team. You will analyse how children’s communication needs affect home, school and community environments.

Collaborating with families, teachers and other specialists, you will support development of speech, language and communication skills in a trans-disciplinary setting, guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy or equivalent meeting NZ Speech-Language Therapists’ Association requirements.
• Specialist knowledge of theory, research and practice related to speech-language development and learning.
• Ability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information for families and educators.
• Ability to coordinate service provision in a multi‑agency, trans‑disciplinary setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, families and teachers.
• Understanding and applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in practice.

Responsibilities

• Understand the impact of children and young people’s communication needs across home, education and community settings.
• Work with parents, caregivers, teachers and other specialists to support speech, language and communication development.
• Collaborate as part of a trans-disciplinary team to address complex needs.

Education

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy

Specialist knowledge of theory, research and practice in speech-language development

Ability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information

Ability to coordinate multi-agency services

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga
