Job summary

The Education Services Group in Henderson, West Auckland, seeks a Speech-Language Therapist for a permanent full-time role within the Learning Support team. You will analyse how children’s communication needs affect home, school and community environments.

Collaborating with families, teachers and other specialists, you will support development of speech, language and communication skills in a trans-disciplinary setting, guided by Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy or equivalent meeting NZ Speech-Language Therapists’ Association requirements.
• Specialist knowledge of theory, research and practice related to speech-language development and learning.
• Ability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information for families and educators.
• Ability to coordinate service provision in a multi‑agency, trans‑disciplinary setting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with children, families and teachers.
• Understanding and applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in practice.

Job description

This is a permanent, full-time role in the Henderson Office/West Auckland Centre

As a Speech Language Therapist, you will play a critical role in our region’s Learning Support team by:

Working to understand the impact of children and young people’s communication needs in the context of their home, education setting and community.

Working closely with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other specialists to help them support their children with the development of speech, language and communication skills

Working holistically as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex

Salary range: $69,966 - $106,016 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy or an equivalent that meets the requirements of the New Zealand Speech-Language Therapists’ Association

Specialist knowledge of theory, research and practice related to speech-language, child, and human development, and learning and behaviour

Ability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information

Ability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings

The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.

The Education Services Group provides well-designed, integrated education services that support the impactful and effective operation of education settings to support student achievement and participation. The services help to remove barriers to participation and learning and provide regulatory advice, support and oversight to early learning providers, schools and kura.

The Group has three key priorities for Education Services:

Practice & Guidance: Managing practice and guidance to improve national coordination and consistency, whilst enabling regional autonomy for education service delivery.

Integration & Delivery: Providing education support directly to education settings via integrated regional and national services. This includes intervening when necessary to ensure a high standard of operation to support student outcomes and owning key stakeholder relationships to support schooling improvement and stronger outcomes for learners.

Monitoring & Improvement: Monitoring and advising on improvements to the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of services for achievement and progression, and attendance and participation. This includes monitoring education provider performance against regulations and intervening as required.
