Job summary

Kumaravine - Celebrating Māori & Pasifika success is seeking a permanent full-time educator in the Waikato Region to provide high quality learning support in line with Ministry practice and Te Whāriki guidance.

You will work with parents, teachers and whānau to plan and monitor intervention plans, support transitions, and contribute to a trans-disciplinary team focused on equitable outcomes for ākonga. A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) and related qualifications are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) is required.
  • Post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention or ability to attain this within four years of beginning in the position.
  • A few years of teaching experience and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
  • Understanding a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and for teaching and learning in early childhood.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with ākonga | learners, whānau | families and kaiako | teachers across a diverse range of settings.
  • The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.

Responsibilities

  • Providing high quality learning support in line with the Ministry’s practice framework He Pikorua guiding principles, strands, and goals of Te Whariki: Early Childhood Curriculum, and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo.
  • Building and strengthening the capability of those who are best placed to support children’s’ learning such as parents, teachers and whānau | families.
  • Understanding the families’ needs, collaboratively planning, supporting, and monitoring the implementation of intervention plans.
  • Supporting transition points in the child’s learning pathway, such as transition into early childhood education and to school as required.
  • Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex.
