Job summary

MINISTRY OF EDUCATION in the Waikato region seeks a permanent Early Intervention Teacher to join the Learning Support team. You will provide high‑quality learning support within Te Whariki framework, and collaborate with ākonga, whānau and kaiako across diverse settings.

You will bring a Teaching degree in Early Childhood and a Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention, with several years of teaching experience and a strong knowledge of child development.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) is required.
• A Post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention or the ability to attain this within four years.
• Several years of teaching experience and knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
• Understanding diverse needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and for teaching and learning in early childhood and family homes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across diverse settings.

Responsibilities

• Providing high quality learning support in line with He Pikorua and Te Whariki guidance.
• Building capability of parents, teachers and whānau to support learning.
• Understanding families' needs and collaboratively planning, supporting and monitoring intervention plans.
• Supporting transitions into early childhood education and school as required.
• Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team for complex needs.

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

We are offering a permanent full-time position the Waikato RegionAs an Early Intervention Teacher, you will play a critical role in our region's Learning Support team by:

• Providing high quality learning support in line with the Ministry's practice framework He Pikorua guiding principles, strands, and goals of Te Whariki: Early Childhood Curriculum, and Te Whariki a te Kohanga Reo.
• Building and strengthening the capability of those who are best placed to support children's' learning such as parents, teachers and whānau | families.
• Understanding the families' needs, collaboratively planning, supporting, and monitoring the implementation of intervention plans.
• Supporting transition points in the child's learning pathway, such as transition into early childhood education and to school as required.
• Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child's needs are complex.

To be successful you will need:

• A Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood).
• A post-graduate Diploma in Specialist Teaching: Early Intervention or the ability to attain this within four years of beginning in the position.
• A few years of teaching experience and a deep knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour.
• An understanding of a range of needs and disabilities and their implications for daily functioning in family life and for teaching and learning in the context of early childhood and family homes.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with ākonga | learners, whānau | families and kaiako | teachers across a diverse range of settings.
• The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
• A full driver's licence.
• The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Te Mahau | Education ServicesThe Education Services Group provides well-designed, integrated education services that support the impactful and effective operation of education settings to support student achievement and participation. The services help to remove barriers to participation and learning and provide regulatory advice, support and oversight to early learning providers, schools and kura.

The Group has three key priorities for Education Services:Practice & Guidance: Managing practice and guidance to improve national coordination and consistency, whilst enabling regional autonomy for education service delivery. Integration & Delivery: Providing education support directly to education settings via integrated regional and national services. This includes intervening when necessary to ensure a high standard of operation to support student outcomes and owning key stakeholder relationships to support schooling improvement and stronger outcomes for learners. Monitoring & Improvement: Monitoring and advising on improvements to the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of services for achievement and progression, and attendance and participation. This includes monitoring education provider performance against regulations and intervening as required.
