Job summary

Ministry of Education New Zealand in Auckland is inviting a highly skilled Psychologist to join Te Kahu Tōī IWS as an intensive wraparound service specialist. You will assess and intervene for children/young people with challenging behaviours and learning needs, collaborating with families, schools and agencies to develop robust plans.

The role requires NZ registration, a current practicing certificate, and strong communication across diverse settings.

Qualifications

• To be successful you will need to be a New Zealand Registered Psychologist under the Health Practitioners Competency Assurance Act and hold a current practicing certificate.
• Ability to contribute your specialist skills within multi-agency, trans-disciplinary settings where the child/youth are at the centre of everything you do.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families, teachers and other professionals across a diverse range of settings.
• Understanding and applying the principles of Te Tiriri o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
• Willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Responsibilities

• Identify patterns or contributing factors that may be influencing learning, wellbeing and behaviour.
• Contribute to strength based collaborative team processes to meet the young person's underlying needs.
• Provide ongoing, individualized and dynamic psychological assessment and intervention.
• Support all those around the child to use evidence informed practice.
• Monitor implementation effectiveness by supporting data collection and informed decision making.

Te Kahu Tōī, The Intensive Wraparound Service is a service that provides comprehensive, evidence-based interventions to support children/young people with challenging behaviour, socio-emotional difficulties and complex learning needs across a range of contexts. The team works collaboratively with children/young people, parents/caregivers and family/whānau, schools, agencies and local communities to develop and implement comprehensive ecological wraparound plans. The priority for these plans is for the child/youth to achieve success at home, school and in their local community.

As Te Kahu Tōī IWS Psychologist you will work as part of a team to understand the needs of the young person and family and implement evidence-based interventions in your areas of expertise. More specifically, you will;

Salary range: $85,416 - $126,000 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

The Education Services Group provides well-designed, integrated education services that support the impactful and effective operation of education settings to support student achievement and participation. The services help to remove barriers to participation and learning and provide regulatory advice, support and oversight to early learning providers, schools and kura.

The Group has three key priorities for Education Services:

• Practice & Guidance: Managing practice and guidance to improve national coordination and consistency, whilst enabling regional autonomy for education service delivery.
• Integration & Delivery: Providing education support directly to education settings via integrated regional and national services. This includes intervening when necessary to ensure a high standard of operation to support student outcomes and owning key stakeholder relationships to support schooling improvement and stronger outcomes for learners.
• Monitoring & Improvement: Monitoring and advising on improvements to the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of services for achievement and progression, and attendance and participation. This includes monitoring education provider performance against regulations and intervening as required.
