Job summary

Downer NZ in Wellington is seeking a motivated Driver Operator (Sweeper) to join our site team. You will operate a range of machinery including sweepers, rollers, graders and trucks, contributing to a variety of construction, renewal and maintenance projects in the region.

You will be physically fit, hold a Class 4 NZ Drivers License, and be prepared to work hands‑on while maintaining safety standards and teamwork. Overtime and weather contingencies may apply.

Qualifications

• Experience operating road sweepers and heavy machinery is preferred.
• Must hold a Class 4 NZ Drivers License.
• Physically fit, reliable and team‑oriented.
• Willing to work flexible hours and overtime when required.

Responsibilities

• Operate sweepers, rollers, graders and trucks as part of the crew.
• Contribute to a safe, efficient delivery of construction and maintenance work across Wellington.
• Perform pre-start checks, inspections and basic on‑site tasks as required.

Right now, we're on the lookout for a motivated Driver Operator (Sweeper) to join our Wellington team – whether you're experienced or ready to take the next step.

In this role, you'll be part of a hardworking crew delivering a variety of construction, renewal, and maintenance projects across the region. You'll operate a range of machinery including sweepers, rollers, graders, and trucks, while also pitching in with hands-on work when needed to keep things moving.

You will be a physically fit and motivated person and will bring with you:

Class 4 Full NZ Drivers License essential (WTR highly regarded)

• Road sweeping experience highly regarded but not essential
• Physically fit and willing to get stuck into hands‑on tasks
• Good understanding of road safety, including pre‑starts and inspections
• Reliable, hardworking, and a team player
• Flexible with hours when the job demands it
