Job summary

Downer New Plymouth is seeking a Bitumen Sprayer Operator to join the Transport & Infrastructure Surfacing team. You will operate heavy machinery, control spray rates, and support sealing works across multiple locations in the region.

The role requires a Class 5 license, a team-first mindset, and interest in roading and chip-sealing projects. You’ll work long hours when needed and travel to various sites, with safety and environmental focus guiding daily tasks.

Qualifications

• Ideally experience with roading and chip-sealing work.
• Must be physically capable to operate heavy machinery.
• Class 5 license or higher preferred.
• Committed to safety, quality, and environmental protection.

Responsibilities

• Operate bitumen sprayer and manage spray rates.
• Conduct quality checks on sealing works.
• Drive sprayer truck and support planter equipment as required.
• Perform routine plant checks and basic maintenance.
• Collaborate with team on roading projects across sites.

This is a great opportunity to start your career within our Transport & Infrastructure Surfacing team based in New Plymouth. Working as part of a team, you'll be involved in a number of road sealing activities, like reseals, first coats, patching and commercial work. You'll also need to ensure correct spray rates, conduct quality checks, drive the sprayer truck and look after the plant when required.

Important skills as you'll be working on some pretty heavy machinery, you'll ideally bring with you a Class 5 license. You'll also be a team player and need some experience and a keen interest in roading and chip-sealing work. You'll couple this with:

• A great work ethic – you'll be part of a busy team and working some long hours is required (but you'll be rewarded accordingly)
• Be flexible, able to travel and stay away from home (we work all over the place)
• Strong focus on Safety, Quality and protecting our Environment
• Problem solving skills to solve daily challenges
