The Auckland Despatch Manager is a people orientated role that leads metro despatch in the Auckland area, providing direction, support and performance oversight to the despatch team of six who are responsible for a fleet of sixty trucks and drivers. As part of the wider management group, the Despatch Manager also contributes to operational strategy, capacity planning, continuous improvement and the consistent delivery of company standards across the network. But what we are really looking for is that special person who can build a fantastic team culture within the group so that people love coming to work, while still maintaining the high standards our customers demand.
Lead the day-to-day metro despatch function and maintain clear accountability, establish daily priorities and ensure despatchers pre-schedule and maintain practical delivery and collection plans.
Monitor progress of metro work throughout the day, challenge exceptions early and support despatchers to bring solutions.
Take ownership for metro service performance and ensure despatchers understand and meet customer expectations, ensuring prompt communication and practical solutions.
Lead root cause reviews for failures and ensure corrective actions effectively enacted.
Review despatch processes and systems regularly and implement agreed improvements.
Build a strong positive culture in which people are approachable, information is shared, and problems are raised with solutions.
Develop a superb team culture that allows for an enjoyable team environment while maintaining our high standards.
Mentor and coach despatchers, conduct regular one-on-one's, team meetings, and performance reviews.
Promote constructive working relationships between despatchers, drivers and the wider operation.
Review vehicle utilisation and route efficiency, and implement actions that improve productivity and cost control.
Work with our Fleet and Operations managers to identify vehicle requirements, maintenance impacts, and future capacity needs.
Actively participate in management, operations, customer, and Health & Safety meetings.
Prepare monthly reporting on service and staff productivity.
Lead a safety-first approach and ensure despatch decisions support safe driving, lawful work hours, load security, and safe site practices.
Strong people-orientated leadership experience including coaching, performance management and workforce planning.
Demonstrated experience leading a transport despatch, distribution or time-critical logistics operation.
Excellent oral, written and computer skills.
Full New Zealand Driver License (F Endorsement preferred).
