Job summary

ALH Wellington is seeking an experienced Civil Machine Operator to operate excavators on a variety of civil projects in New Zealand. You will perform earthworks, trenching, drainage, and site preparation while reading site plans and following instructions.

A strong focus on safety and daily equipment checks is essential. The role offers full-time ongoing work with modern equipment and a supportive team, plus opportunities for training and career progression as you contribute to safe, on-time

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators on civil projects.
• Licence for heavy machinery and endorsements where applicable.
• Ability to read site plans and work safely.
• Physically fit with reliable attendance.

Civil Machine Operator (Excavator/Digger Operator)

We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Civil Machine Operator to join our growing team. This role involves operating excavators and other heavy machinery on a variety of civil construction projects, including earthworks, drainage, trenching, site preparation, and roading.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate excavators (diggers) and other civil construction machinery safely and efficiently.


• Carry out earthworks, trenching, drainage, and site preparation.


• Read and work from site plans and instructions.


• Perform daily pre-start checks and basic maintenance on machinery.


• Work alongside ground crews to ensure projects are completed safely and on schedule.


• Follow all health and safety policies and site procedures.

Requirements:

• Proven experience operating excavators and other civil plant.


• Relevant machine operator licences or endorsements.


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


• Strong understanding of safe excavation practices.


• Reliable, punctual, and physically fit.


• A full driver's licence (Class 2, WTR endorsements preferred).
