Job summary

Department of Corrections NZ is seeking a Corrections Officer at Waikeria Prison in Waikato to help keep prisons secure and promote wellbeing for people in custody. You will participate in an intensive, fully paid training programme, including initial induction and weeks at the National Learning Centre, with ongoing development as you graduate and progress.

Applicants should be able to work a rotating roster, and highlight Kaupapa Māori or Pasifika experience or language skills in their

Qualifications

• Legal right to work in New Zealand or valid work visa.
• Full NZ driver licence or eligible to obtain one.
• Ability to declare any conflicts of interest and previous convictions; pass a drug test and medical assessments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain security and wellbeing of people in custody and supervise daily routines.
• Induct people into their unit and support navigation of life in prison.
• Participate in a comprehensive training programme including induction, centre-based weeks and ongoing development.
