Department of Internal Affairs NZ – Wellington, North Island

The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA), Te Tari Taiwhenua, plays a central role in supporting communities, government, and democracy across Aotearoa New Zealand. Through a wide range of services and functions, DIA helps deliver public services that make a meaningful difference to New Zealanders.

Within DIA, Ministerial Services is responsible for supporting Ministers to effectively carry out their responsibilities. As a significant employer on the Parliamentary Precinct, Ministerial Services manages employment arrangements for Ministerial Offices and is leading recruitment activity for the Election 2026 Programme, supporting the successful transition to the 55th Executive.

We are looking for Coordinators to join the Election 2026 Programme Team on a fixed-term basis through to February 2027. Supporting the transition to the 55th Executive, you'll provide coordination and administrative support across a range of recruitment and programme delivery activities.

In this varied and fast-paced role, you'll coordinate communications, meetings and interviews, maintain records and documentation, and assist with planning and operational readiness. Working with a range of stakeholders, you'll play an important role in helping the team deliver a successful general election.

We're looking for organised, adaptable, and customer-focused coordinators who enjoy supporting teams and delivering great outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you'll bring:

  • Experience in administration, coordination, customer service, project support, recruitment support, or a similar role
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office and other business systems
  • Strong relationship management skills and a commitment to providing excellent service
  • Sound judgement and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Previous experience supporting recruitment, programmes, projects, HR activities, or government operations would be beneficial but is not essential.\
