Job summary

One Sushi Wigram in Christchurch is seeking three full-time cooks to join its kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have 1 year of relevant experience or a Level 4+ qualification and must be available for weekends, overtime, late shifts, and potential double shifts.

You will prepare, season, and plate dishes with Japanese techniques, assist with stock orders, and help train junior staff while maintaining high hygiene standards.

Qualifications

• 1 year relevant experience OR a level 4 or above relevant qualification.
• Must be available to work weekends and overtime when required.
• Must be flexible to work late-night shifts and be able to work two shifts in one day.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food as required.
• Season food using Japanese cooking techniques.
• Portion food, plate dishes or place them into takeaway containers, and add gravies and sauces.
• Ensure food quality is consistently maintained and meals are served to customers in a timely manner.
• Assist chefs with checking food stock levels and placing orders with suppliers.
• Train and supervise junior kitchen staff on cooking procedures.
• Assist chefs with menu planning and recipe creation.
• Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen in accordance with health and hygiene regulations.
• Manage frozen and fresh food supplies.

Ensure food quality is consistently maintained at a high standard and meals are served to customers in a timely manner. Assist chefs with checking food stock levels and placing orders with suppliers. Train and supervise junior kitchen staff on cooking procedures using your knowledge and experience when required. Assist chefs with menu planning and recipe creation. Work with other chefs to discuss food preparation matters. Prepare dietary meals to meet customers' special requirements. Maintain a clean and tidy kitchen in accordance with health and hygiene regulations. Manage frozen and fresh food supplies.
