Southern Alps is a Southland based hospitality and project management firm currently managing two local motels and undertaking a number of commercial construction projects.
About the Role
The Construction Manager will oversee and execute renovation and new-build projects at multiple sites, managing all aspects including team leadership, buildability review, value engineering, scheduling and quality control.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Construction Manager will ensure that the project is delivered on time, within budget and to high technical and quality standards.
This is a strategic, hands‑on leadership role, focused on delivery — ideal for someone who thrives on technical challenge, takes ownership, and has a strong background in commercial construction.
Main Tasks:
- Overall Construction Oversight: Manage and oversee all on-site construction activities across up to 5 individual building and renovation projects, ensuring adherence to design, technical specifications, quality, timelines and budgets.
- Team Leadership & Management: Supervise and support a team of several Site Managers, providing clear direction, performance feedback, and day‑to‑day coordination.
- Buildability & Constructability Reviews: Conduct technical reviews of building designs and plans to identify and resolve constructability issues early, ensuring practical and cost‑effective construction solutions.
- Value Engineering & Cost Control: Analyze project designs and materials to recommend alternatives that optimize cost, construction efficiency, and long‑term performance without compromising quality.
- Program & Schedule Management: Develop and manage overall construction schedules across multiple sites, ensuring coordination of site activities, subcontractors, and critical path milestones.
- Design Change & RFI Management: Coordinate and manage all design changes, construction variations, and RFIs (Requests for Information), ensuring timely resolution with consultants and accurate documentation of changes.
Experience & Skills
- Degree or diploma in Construction (Project) Management, Civil/Structural Engineering, or related field.
- OR
- Minimum5+ years’ experiencein commercial construction, with at least 3 years in a Construction Manager or Senior Site Manager role.
- Proven experience managingmultiple simultaneous building projectsor staged developments (preferred, but not required).
- Strong technical knowledge in building methods, structural systems, and building codes.
- Strong leadership and team coordination abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills (Chinese / English language skills highly desirable).
- Highly organised, deadline‑driven, and detail‑oriented.
- Confident using project management software and digital documentation tools.
- Full-time, Permanent Position (minimum 32 hours / week)
- Daily transfer from / to Te Anau (40-minute travel one-way)
- Competitive Salary based on experience ($100,000 - $135,000)
