Job summary

The Warehouse Group is seeking a commercially minded Legal & Compliance professional to join our Auckland-based team. You’ll help support compliance, privacy and regulatory activities across our NZ retail brands, translating complex rules into practical guidance for diverse teams.

You’ll review policies, deliver training, and stay across evolving regulations, working closely with Legal, Product, Finance and Operations to mitigate risk and protect customers while enabling strong business outcomes.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand NZ regulatory frameworks (CGA, Fair Trading Act) and privacy requirements.
• Strong communication skills with ability to translate complex rules into actionable guidance.

Responsibilities

• Keep the compliance framework sharp by reviewing policies, procedures and controls to be practical and effective.
• Support privacy matters, requests, incidents and assessments.
• Contribute to compliance training and awareness programmes.
• Stay updated on regulatory developments and translate into meaningful business impact.
• Collaborate with Legal, Product, Customer Care, Loss Prevention, QA, Finance, Logistics and more as a trusted partner.

We now have an awesome opportunity to join our Legal & Compliance team and play a key role in supporting compliance, privacy and regulatory activity across one of New Zealand's largest retail groups.

You'll work across a wide variety of business areas, helping teams understand their obligations, manage risk, and navigate compliance challenges in practical, commercially sensible ways.

Snapshot of the role:

• Keeping our compliance framework sharp - reviewing policies, procedures and controls so they’re not only compliant but practical and effective
• Support privacy matters, requests, incidents and assessments
• Contribute to compliance training and awareness programmes
• Staying across the latest regulatory developments (FTA, CGA, Privacy, Product Safety Standards, etc.) and translating these into what they mean for our business
• Supporting leaders and teams to understand their responsibilities, bringing complex requirements to life through training, coaching and communication
• Working closely with teams like Legal, Product, Customer Care, Loss Prevention, QA, Finance, Logistics and more - you’ll be a trusted partner across the business
• Work with external advisers, regulators and key stakeholders when required

Qualifications

You're someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can juggle competing priorities without losing your cool. You know when to roll up your sleeves, when to ask the right questions, and when it's time to escape an issue.

You're naturally curious, practical and solutions-focused, with a knack for turning complex information into clear, plain-English advice that people can actually understand and act on. Most importantly, you're able to see both the detail and the bigger picture, helping the business navigate challenges while keeping an eye on what matters most.

You don't need a compliance background to be successful here however working knowledge of New Zealand regulatory frameworks/requirements, including consumer (CGA 1993, Fair Trading Act 1986) and privacy legislation would be advantageous. We're looking for someone with sound judgement, commercial awareness and the ability to quickly get up to speed on new topics. Retail or customer-focused experience would also be a bonus.
