Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of accounting experience in a commercial environment.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel and PowerBI skills.
• Experience preparing journals, reconciliations, and month-end reporting.
• Proven ability to transform data into business insights and strategy.
• Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Experience within retail, FMCG, wholesale, franchise, or consumer goods sectors.
• Exposure to supplier rebates, trading terms, or promotional funding arrangements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting analysis.
• Oversee journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations.
• Oversee Alliance Agreement completion and account setup.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
• Assist Tax team with GST, FBT, and other statutory returns.
• Assist Finance with NZ accounting standards and tax compliance.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performance finance team focused on accountability and service.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial records.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and commercially minded Commercial Accountant to join our Auckland team in a full-time permanent role.

This is a broad role combining financial accounting, commercial analysis and business partnering. You will work closely with key stakeholders to deliver financial reporting, budgeting management and performance insights, while supporting supplier funding, franchise operations and strategic business initiatives.

In this Role

• Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting analysis.
• Oversee journals, accruals, prepayments, and account reconciliations.
• Oversee ARG Alliance Agreement completion and account set-up.
• Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
• Assist Metcash Tax team in preparation and lodging of GST, FBT, and other statutory returns.
• Assist Metcash Finance in compliance with New Zealand accounting standards and tax requirements.
• Foster a collaborative, high-performance finance team culture focused on accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure financial records are accurate and complete.

You’re Likely a Match If

• 3-5+ years' accounting experience in a commercial environment.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel and PowerBI skills
• Experience preparing journals, reconciliations, and month-end reporting.
• Proven experience transforming data into business insights + strategy
• Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Experience within retail, FMCG, wholesale, franchise, or consumer goods sectors.
