Job summary

Tahunanui School in Nelson, NZ invites applications for a full-time permanent classroom teacher position for Years 1–6, starting at the beginning of the 2027 school year. You will join a warm, inclusive community of around 275 tamariki and contribute to our evidence-based teaching culture.

We seek a candidate with a current NZ teaching certificate, strong structured literacy knowledge, solid mathematics pedagogy, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi embedded across everyday practice.

Qualifications

• NZ registered teacher with current practising certificate.
• Experience implementing structured literacy (BSLA) in primary years.
• Strong maths pedagogy; familiarity with Maths No Problem.
• Ability to contribute an additional curriculum strength to the team.
• Excellent classroom management and warm, high-expectations relationships with ākonga.
• Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and embedding te ao Māori in daily practice.

Responsibilities

• Teach across Years 1–6 (primary) with a full-time permanent appointment.
• Deliver English, Health and physical education, Learning languages, Mathematics and statistics, Science, Social sciences, Technology, The arts.
• Implement structured literacy and maths pedagogy across the year levels.
• Collaborate with staff, contribute to PLD, and support school-wide literacy initiatives.
• Foster inclusive learning environments and build strong relationships with ākonga and whānau.

Kia ora! Tāhunanui School is seeking an outstanding classroom teacher for a full-time permanent position, Years 1–6, starting at the beginning of the 2027 school year.

Tāhunanui is a warm, inclusive contributing primary school of around 275 tamariki in beautiful Nelson — close to the beach, the Great Taste Trail, and a supportive parent community. We are proud of our staff culture, our evidence-based teaching practice and our strong learning outcomes.

We are looking for a teacher who brings:

• A confident, current understanding of structured literacy (ideally BSLA) and its implementation across the primary years
• Strong mathematics pedagogy — we use Maths No Problem across Years 0–6 and value teachers who understand mastery approaches
• Additional curriculum strengths in another area to share with the wider team
• Excellent classroom management and warm, high-expectations relationships with ākonga
• A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and building te ao Māori into everyday practice
