Job summary

Medici Kitchen in Martinburg, New Zealand, is seeking a Chef to join our vibrant, multi-cuisine café. You will lead a small kitchen team and craft Sri Lankan and international dishes to excite our loyal guests.

Our usual hours are 7:00AM to 3:30PM. This is a full-time role, offering 30 to 40 hours per week, with responsibilities including cost control, menu development, and staff growth.

Qualifications

• Minimum of four years experience cooking in an industrial kitchen.
• Ability to create and deliver an exciting menu focusing on Sri Lankan and international dishes.
• Experience in ordering, costing, pricing and quality control.
• Reputation for a well-ordered, clean kitchen and a thriving environment for staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small kitchen team and support overall kitchen operations.
• Drive growth in food sales while achieving costs of goods and wage budgets.
• Ensure staff retention and maintain a clean, efficient kitchen environment.

Café Medici is a vibrant, innovative multi-cuisine café with a loyal following in the Wairarapa and further afield.

We have an opportunity for a Chef to join the team in this popular, dynamic café.

Ideally, you will have:

• a minimum of four years experience in cooking in an industrial kitchen
• the ability to create and deliver an exciting menu focusing on Sri Lankan food and international dishes
• experience in ordering and cost, pricing, and quality control
• Have a reputation for keeping a well-ordered, clean kitchen and creating an environment that encourages people to thrive.
• Being an all-rounder in kitchen would be an added advantage, but not mandatory.

In addition to the above the successful applicant will be someone who takes pride in creating excellent food and has a successful track record in leading a small team. He/she must support the overall operational requirements of the kitchen, including facilitation of growth in food sales, achievement of costs of goods and wage budgets and retention of kitchen staff.

Our usual hours are from 7:00AM to 3:30PM, making this an ideal role for a dedicated foodie looking to combine lifestyle with creativity and passion. As this is a full-time position, we are seeking applicants available for a minimum of 30 hours and a maximum of 40hours per week.
