Job summary

Brooklyn Playcentre in Wellington seeks a part-time Centre Coordinator to work 9.5 hours per week, Tue and Thu 9.00am–2.15pm, starting 12 October 2026. You will collaborate with centre whānau and support staff to build adult capability and confidence, guiding sessions and programmes in line with Playcentre Philosophy and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

The role focuses on high-quality guidance, curriculum development with child-led experiences, health and safety, and strong family relationships.

Qualifications

  • Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+.
  • Confidence using technology to support learning & administration.
  • Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification.
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.

Responsibilities

  • Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences.
  • Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions.
  • Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery.
  • Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations.
  • Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values.

9.5 hours per week | Part-time | Starting 12 October 2026

  • Tuesday and Thursday 9.00am – 2.15pm
  • Permanentposition during term time only

About the role

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the Centre Coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence.

As the Person Responsible on session, this role provides high quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The Centre Coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children’s learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences

You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships, providing guidance and solutions with a centre-focused approach.

You will also have:

  • Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau
  • Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+
  • Confidence using technology to support learning & administration
  • Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
