Job summary

Lower Hutt Playcentre is seeking a part-time Centre Coordinator in Wellington to lead and support whānau to deliver child-centered, whānau-led sessions consistent with Playcentre Philosophy.

You will provide pedagogical guidance, build strong relationships and ensure sessions meet regulatory requirements while promoting Te Tiriti o Waitangi within the learning environment.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering adult education and guidance to the playcentre whānau.
• Knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations and Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitment.
• Playcentre Education Diploma Course 3 or equivalent ECE qualification required.
• First Aid certification and NZ residency or valid NZ work visa.

Responsibilities

• Develop whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki.
• Model and support high quality, whānau-led sessions.
• Provide advice on curriculum, adult education and safety for session delivery.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety and regulatory obligations.
• Promote Māori cultural values and Te Tiriti o Waitangi in sessions.

About the role

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the Centre Coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence.

As the Person Responsible on session, this role provides high quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The Centre Coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children’s learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences
• Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions
• Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery
• Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations
• Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values

About you

You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships, providing guidance and solutions with a centre-focused approach.

You will also have:

• Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau
• Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+
• Confidence using technology to support learning & administration
• Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
• Hold and maintain appropriate First Aid certification
• NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
