Job summary

Queenstown Playcentre seeks a coordinator to work 23 hours per week, starting 9 September 2026. You will collaborate with whānau and staff to foster a whānau-led environment and deliver high-quality, child-centered sessions aligned with Playcentre philosophy.

The role focuses on building adult capability, providing guidance, and ensuring programmes meet Te Whāriki, regulatory standards, and Health & Safety requirements while promoting Māori cultural values.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with centre whānau and support staff to build adult capability.
  • Provide pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau and ensure programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy.
  • Develop rich, child-led curriculum experiences with whānau involvement.
  • Support sessions to meet regulatory and Health & Safety requirements.
  • Promote Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in the Playcentre context.

About the role

Working in collaboration with centre whānau and other centre support staff, the centre coordinator focuses on building adult capability and confidence. This enables adults to progressively take greater leadership in sessions and centre responsibilities, supporting a whānau-led environment.

As the person responsible on session, this role provides high-quality support and pedagogical guidance to Playcentre whānau. The centre coordinator ensures sessions and programmes reflect Playcentre Philosophy and enriches children’s learning and development.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing whānau to be the first and best educators for their tamariki by ensuring rich, meaningful, child-led curriculum experiences
  • Role-modelling and supporting the delivery of high quality, whānau-led sessions
  • Providing advice and support to centre whānau focusing on curriculum, adult education and health and safety to support session delivery
  • Ensure sessions meet regulatory and legislative requirements including Health and Safety obligations
  • Recognise the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they relate to Playcentre and actively engage in promotion of Māori cultural values
About you

You will be confident building and maintaining strong relationships, providing guidance and solutions with a centre-focused approach.

You will also have:

  • Passion for Playcentre philosophy and empowering whānau
  • Course 3 of the Playcentre Education Diploma or equivalent ECE Qualification Level 4+
  • Current first aid certificate or willingness to complete
  • Confidence using technology to support learning and administration
  • Strong knowledge of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Hold and maintain appropriate first aid certification
  • NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa
