Job summary

Wither Hills Winery in Marlborough, New Zealand, is seeking a senior cellarhand to coordinate day-to-day cellar operations alongside the Production Winemaker. You will lead the cellar team, including interns, to ensure work is completed on time and in line with winery procedures and winemaking instructions.

You will coordinate work with the winemaking team, maintain safe practices, assist in reviewing cellar procedures, monitor equipment, and support training of staff while upholding lean

Qualifications

• Senior cellarhand experience or relevant tertiary study focused on oenology.
• Strong practical and technical skills with an interest in wine and winemaking.
• Good planning, communication and organisation skills, with the flexibility to adapt when priorities change.
• A forklift licence and full driver’s licence.
• Availability to work nights or weekends during harvest, and longer hours when required at other times.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate cellar work and operational logistics with the winemaking team.
• Ensure safe work practices are maintained and winery compliance and audit requirements met.
• Help review and maintain cellar procedures and manuals.
• Monitor cellar equipment and report maintenance needs to the Site Services team.
• Supervising and training cellar team including permanent cellar hands and vintage interns
• Maintaining pride in the workplace, and keeping a clean and tidy winery in line with lean manufacturing principles
• Build your knowledge of cellar equipment and carry out basic preventative maintenance.
