Job summary

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is seeking a Caregiver Social Worker to recruit, assess and support caregivers providing safe, nurturing homes for tamariki and rangatahi. You will partner with caregivers, coordinate with the child’s Social Worker and engage with families to ensure tailored, practical support across care journeys.

You will travel across Central Otago, Queenstown Lakes and North Otago, bringing resilience, critical thinking and excellent communication to a collaborative

Qualifications

• Must hold a Social Work qualification and be registered with the SWRB.
• Full registration with NZ Social Worker Registration Board and annual practising certificate.
• Resilience, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Upholding the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and applying this in practice.
• Knowledge of Oranga Tamariki National Care Standards.
• Valid and clean New Zealand driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

• Partner closely with caregivers to help tamariki/rangatahi understand their role at each stage of care.
• Identify key issues with children and caregivers and develop tailored strategies.
• Work with other agencies and providers to meet caregivers' needs.
• Deliver regular training and supervision for team and caregivers.
• Travel across Central Otago, Queenstown Lakes and North Otago regions to support caregivers.
