Job summary

Artisan Café, Rangiora Bakery in Rangiora, North Canterbury, is seeking a reliable, experienced hands-on 2IC to support the Café Manager and ensure smooth day-to-day operations during a 6-month parental leave cover.

You will lead the front-of-house team, prepare high-quality coffee, and maintain excellent customer service, health and safety standards while coordinating with the kitchen and catering bookings.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ proven experience in a similar role.
• Passion for hospitality, food and beverage.
• Excellent communication and team leadership skills.
• Knowledge of food safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist and support Café Manager to ensure the seamless smooth running of the café.
• Lead and support the front-of-house team.
• Make consistently high-quality coffee.
• Ensure smooth communication between front-of-house and kitchen.
• Assist customers, booking catering and function reservations.
• Follow food safety, hygiene and health and safety procedures and policies.
• Operate POS system and process payments accurately.
• Manage stock levels and report shortages.

We are looking for a reliable, experienced hands‑on 2IC, assistant manager to ensure the smooth day‑to‑day operation of our Café. You will have a passion for food and people and a drive to deliver the highest standard of service while being proactive in maintaining turnover.

This position is fixed term position to cover an upcoming 6‑month period of parental leave.

Key responsibilities

• Assist and support Café Manager to ensure the seamless smooth running of the café
• Leading and supporting the front‑of house team
• Making consistently high‑quality coffee
• Ensuring smooth communication between front‑of‑house and kitchen
• Assisting customers, booking catering and function reservations
• Follow food safety, hygiene and health and safety procedures and policies
• Operate POS system and process payments accurately
• Manage stock levels and report shortages

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A minimum of 3 years’ proven experience in a similar role
