Job summary

Foodstuffs NZ in Christchurch is seeking a Trade Qualified Butcher to step up as Assistant Butchery Manager (2IC). You will lead a large team, inspire performance and take ownership of daily operations in the Butchery Department.

Qualifications

• Trade qualified butcher with proven leadership and staff coaching experience.
• Experience in production planning, stock control and GP management.
• Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of ordering, waste management and food safety compliance.
• Excellent communication and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
• SAP experience would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead and inspire a large Butchery team, setting clear expectations and leading by example.
• Plan, organise and oversee daily production, ensuring quality, efficiency and deadlines are met.
• Identify opportunities to maximise gross profit, minimise waste and improve productivity.
• Support ordering, stock management, inventory accuracy, food safety and operational compliance.
• Bring fresh thinking, product ideas and opportunities to keep customers coming back.
• Confidently lead the department in the Butchery Manager's absence.
• Help turn department goals into measurable success.
