Job summary

Waikato District Council is seeking a Building Review Team Leader to guide a team responsible for assessing and processing building consent applications, ensuring compliance with the Building Act and Building Code, and supporting accreditation processes. The role emphasizes stakeholder collaboration, leadership, and service excellence.

You will drive continuous improvement, manage risks, and champion customer-focused service while shaping a dynamic, safe, and thriving community.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years' trade experience in the NZ building industry.
• 5 years' regulatory experience in NZ building industry.
• NZ Diploma in Building Control Surveying (Level 6) or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of the Building Act 2004 and related legislation.
• Full New Zealand driver's licence.
• Willingness to learn te ao Māori, tikanga Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Te Ture Whaimana.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a high-performing Building Review team.
• Manage workflow and resources to ensure timely, high-quality service delivery.
• Support Building Consent Authority and Territorial Authority functions across the district.
• Build strong relationships with customers, industry professionals and internal teams.
• Manage escalated customer enquiries and complaints.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance customer experience.
• Contribute to audits, accreditation activities, reporting and business improvement initiatives.
• Support organisational change and help the team achieve shared goals.
