Job description

Jora New Zealand will close on 9th September 2026. Thank you for being with us, we are cheering you on as you continue your career journey.

Help shape the next chapter of hospitality at one of New Zealand’s leading golf destinations

Tieke Golf Estate is entering an exciting new phase, and we’re looking for an experienced Bistro Operations Manager to lead our hospitality operation.

This is an opportunity to take ownership of an established Bistro & Bar while helping shape what comes next. We’re looking for someone who enjoys building strong teams, improving how things are done and creating a hospitality experience that complements the quality of our award-winning golf course.

The Role

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you’ll have overall responsibility for Tieke’s food and beverage operation, spanning the Bistro & Bar, functions, club events, tournaments and on-course hospitality.

This is a senior management role with responsibility for the commercial performance, people, service standards and operational direction of the department. You’ll lead through the Executive Chef and Venue Manager, providing clear direction and accountability while ensuring front and back of house work effectively together.

We’re looking for someone who is equally comfortable setting direction and being visible in the venue, engaging with members and guests and supporting the team during busy service periods.

You’ll also form part of the wider management team and deputise for the General Manager on clubhouse matters as required.

A Genuine Hospitality Lifestyle Benefit

Unlike many senior hospitality roles, our normal operating hours are generally 8.00am to 6.30pm, meaning evening work is limited and typically only required for occasional functions and events.

This is intended as a full-time position, although a 30-hour-per-week arrangement would be considered for the right candidate. Flexibility to maintain a visible leadership presence during key service periods, including weekends, is important.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the overall food and beverage operation across the Bistro & Bar, functions, events and on-course hospitality.
  • Lead and support the Executive Chef and Venue Manager, setting clear expectations and accountability.
  • Take ownership of financial performance, including budgets, labour costs, margins, stock, wastage and profitability.
  • Develop service standards, operating priorities and performance targets across the department.
  • Build a professional, service-focused culture through strong leadership, coaching and development.
  • Identify opportunities to grow revenue and continually improve the Bistro, functions and wider hospitality offering.
  • Maintain a visible, hands-on presence with members, guests and the team during key service periods.
  • Oversee supplier relationships, compliance and appropriate operational and financial controls.
  • Deputise for the General Manager on clubhouse matters as required.
About You

We’re particularly interested in candidates who have developed their experience in a quality restaurant, bistro or similar customer-focused hospitality environment.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in a senior restaurant, bistro or hospitality management role.
  • Strong people leadership and experience leading managers, supervisors or senior team members.
  • Sound commercial capability, including budgeting, labour management, margin control and performance reporting.
  • High standards of customer service and experience in a busy customer-facing environment.
  • Strong operational judgement, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to lead strategically while remaining visible and engaged in day-to-day service.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A practical mindset focused on continuous improvement.
  • A current Manager’s Certificate, or the ability to obtain the required licences and certifications.

Experience in a golf club, private club or resort environment is welcome, but is not essential. We are more interested in strong restaurant and hospitality fundamentals that can be brought into the Tieke environment.

Why Join Tieke?
  • A senior leadership role with genuine responsibility and autonomy.
  • The opportunity to shape the future of Tieke’s hospitality offering.
  • Lifestyle-friendly operating hours with limited evening work.
  • Flexibility to consider a 30-hour-per-week arrangement for the right candidate.
  • A diverse operation spanning members, visitors, public dining, golf events and functions.
  • A unique workplace at one of New Zealand’s premier golf destinations.

Salary: $90,000–$100,000 per annum, depending on experience.
Position: Full-time, Permanent – reduced hours may be considered.
