Job summary

Scenic Hotel Te Pania in Napier, Hawke's Bay, is seeking a dedicated Food & Beverage team member for a full-time fixed-term role (Oct 2026–Mar 2027). Guaranteed minimum 30 hours per week on a rotating weekend roster.

You will oversee F&B teams, train staff, prepare cocktails and coffees, manage the bar, and ensure guest satisfaction. Ideal candidates have at least 1 year bar experience, strong cocktail and bar service knowledge, and a hospitality mindset.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year hands-on bar experience.
  • Cocktail-making skills and knowledge of drink preparation.
  • Barista experience to prepare quality coffees.
  • Strong knowledge of bar service including beer, wine and spirits.
  • LCQ qualification and Duty Manager certificate are advantageous.
  • Relevant hospitality qualification is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operation of Food & Beverage teams and allocate tasks.
  • Provide supervision, training and guidance to Attendants.
  • Prepare and serve cocktails, beer, wine and coffees.
  • Manage bar setup, restocking, cleaning and presentation.
  • Take and relay guest orders to kitchen and bar staff.
  • Handle complaints to ensure a positive guest experience.
  • Communicate daily specials and promotions to the team.
  • Maintain sanitised restaurant areas and operate POS transactions.
  • Support with additional duties from the F&B Operations Manager or Hotel Manager.

Employment Type: Full-Time Fixed-Term Position
Dates: October 2026 - March 2027
Hours of Work: Guaranteed a minimum of 30 hours per week, rotating roster, including weekends.
Wage Rate: $26.00 - $27.50 per hour

Key Tasks & Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing the day-to-day operation of teams in the Food & Beverage department, including making sure team members understand their allocated tasks.
  • Providing supervision, training and guidance to Food & Beverage Attendants.
  • Preparing and serving a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, beer and wine.
  • Preparing quality barista-style coffees and maintaining a high standard of coffee service.
  • Taking responsibility for the bar operation, including setting up, restocking, cleaning and maintaining an organised and well-presented bar.
  • Greeting and seating guests. Taking orders and relaying them to the kitchen and bar staff.
  • Handle customer complaints and resolve issues to ensure a positive experience.
  • Communicate daily specials, promotions, and relevant information to the team.
  • Taking a proactive approach to sanitising and cleaning the restaurant.
  • Collecting payments for sales and operating the point of sale system and cash register.
  • Assisting with any additional duties requested by the Food & Beverage Operations Manager, or Hotel Manager.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum 1 year of hands-on bar experience is required.
  • Confident cocktail-making skills, with a good knowledge of common cocktails and drink preparation.
  • Barista experience and the ability to confidently prepare quality coffees.
  • Strong knowledge of bar service, including beer, wine and spirits.
  • An LCQ qualification and Duty Manager's Certificate would be an advantage.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in hospitality or a related field would be an advantage.
  • Passion for delivering outstanding customer service.
  • Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • A confident, hands-on approach and the ability to lead by example.
