Job summary

Aon’s Auckland team is seeking an Associate Director – Professional Risks to provide senior leadership across a portfolio of financial lines clients. You will shape client risk and insurance strategies, lead renewals and insurer negotiations, and coordinate the wider Aon team to deliver integrated solutions across D&O, PI/E&O, cyber, crime and broader management liability.

Job description

The Opportunity

Aon’s Auckland team is looking for an Associate Director – Professional Risks to provide senior leadership across a portfolio of financial lines clients.

As an Associate Director within our Professional Risks division, you will be the primary senior contact for a portfolio of key accounts. You will shape client risk and insurance strategies, lead renewals and insurer negotiations, and coordinate the wider Aon team to deliver integrated solutions across Directors’ & Officers’ (D&O), Professional Indemnity/Errors & Omissions (PI/E&O), cyber, crime and broader management liability.

You will also play a key role in driving growth by identifying and converting new and expanded business opportunities within the Professional Risks portfolio. This includes leading elements of client pitches, developing go‑to‑market strategies and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to design and present tailored solutions.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical capability in financial lines along with a proven track record in client leadership and business development.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated client management experience across a large, complex portfolio
  • Strong financial lines product knowledge, including D&O, PI/E&O and cyber (exposure to power/energy risks advantageous)
  • Experience developing and executing client risk and insurance strategies
  • Experience leading renewal strategy, program design and placement, including negotiations with local and international insurers
  • A track record of identifying and converting new business and expanded business opportunities
  • Experience coordinating internal stakeholders (e.g. broking, claims, analytics, global colleagues) to deliver integrated client solutions
  • The ability to oversee service delivery, resolve issues and support complex claims
  • First‑class communication and presentation skills, including the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and C‑suite clients
  • A proactive sales mentality and keen entrepreneurial spirit
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and problem‑solving skills
  • Corporate written and verbal communication skills

Additional Requirements: You will also be required to hold the New Zealand Certificate in Financial Services (Level 5) – General Insurance (or equivalent), or be prepared to obtain the requisite professional qualification within required timeframes.
