Job summary

Suncorp New Zealand in Christchurch is seeking an Assistant Underwriter with commercial insurance experience to support our SME portfolio. You’ll work with intermediaries and partners to deliver sound underwriting decisions and build strong customer outcomes.

The role focuses on renewal propositions, new SME business, collaboration across the business and ongoing digitisation initiatives. Flexible/hybrid work options are available and local candidates are preferred.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience within commercial underwriting or the broader commercial insurance industry.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to influence and negotiate.
• Customer-first mindset with commitment to delivering quality outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Support SME commercial underwriting opportunities across the SME market.
• Contribute to renewal propositions and new business opportunities.
• Quote and help secure new SME commercial business opportunities.
• Build strong relationships with intermediaries and business partners.
• Deliver a smooth, efficient experience for commercial customers and partners, with a focus on good customer outcomes.
• Collaborate across the wider Business team and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support digitisation and automation initiatives.
