Sprig + Fern The Meadows in Nelson is seeking an experienced Assistant Bar Manager to support day-to-day operations of our craft beer tavern. You will work with the owners to oversee bar operations, supervise staff, maintain service standards, and ensure NZ licensing compliance.

The role requires leadership, strong communication, and the ability to manage stock, rostering, cash handling, and customer relations while delivering high venue standards and events support.

Qualifications

• NZ Duty Manager’s Certificate is required.
• Minimum three years of hospitality management experience.
• Experience supervising staff and managing hospitality operations.
• Knowledge of liquor licensing and responsible service.
• Willing to work evenings, weekends and public holidays.
• Craft beer knowledge is advantageous.

Location: Sprig + Fern The Meadows | Berryfields, Nelson Pay: $26–$30 per hour, depending on experience Hours: Anywhere from 30 – 35 hours a week Employment type: Full time

About the Role:

Sprig + Fern The Meadows is looking for an experienced and motivated Assistant Bar Manager to support the day-to-day operations of our community-focused craft beer tavern.

The successful applicant will work alongside the owners to oversee bar operations, supervise staff, maintain service standards, and ensure compliance with New Zealand licensing and workplace requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with the daily management and smooth operation of the venue.
• Supervise, train, and support staff.
• Assist with staff rostering and task delegation.
• Oversee opening and closing procedures.
• Manage stock control, ordering, stocktakes, and wastage.
• Assist with cash handling and end-of-day reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with liquor licensing, responsible alcohol service, health and safety, and food safety requirements.

Requirements:

• Minimum three years of hospitality management experience.
• Current, valid New Zealand Duty Manager’s Certificate.
• Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing hospitality operations.
• Knowledge of responsible alcohol service and New Zealand liquor licensing requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.

Craft beer knowledge and experience with stock control and hospitality POS systems would be advantageous.
