Job summary

Menon & Associates in Auckland's Three Kings area is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our friendly team. You will manage compliance work for a diverse client base, including GST, financial statements and income tax returns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in an accounting practice in New Zealand.
• Proficient in Xero and MYOB with strong knowledge of NZ accounting/compliance.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare annual financial statements for clients across companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders and rental properties.
• Prepare and file income tax returns and GST returns.
• Process and review clients' accounting records and perform reconciliations.
• liaise with Inland Revenue when required and ensure compliance with NZ laws.
• Help manage busy workload and meet filing deadlines.
• Provide guidance to junior staff when required.

Menon & Associates is looking for an experienced Accountant to join our friendly and supportive team in Three Kings, Auckland.

This is a full-time position within a busy accounting practice. You will be responsible for managing compliance work for a diverse client base, including preparing GST returns, annual financial statements and income tax returns.

The role is fast-paced, deadline-driven and involves managing a high volume of work. The successful applicant must be able to work accurately and independently while handling competing priorities and meeting strict filing deadlines.

Key responsibilities

• Preparing annual financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships, sole traders and rental property owners
• Preparing and filing income tax returns
• Preparing, reviewing and filing GST returns
• Processing and reviewing clients’ accounting records
• Completing bank, loan and balance-sheet reconciliations
• Preparing tax adjustments and supporting workpapers
• Ensuring client records comply with New Zealand accounting and taxation requirements
• Communicating with clients to obtain information and resolve accounting queries
• Liaising with Inland Revenue when required
• Managing assigned jobs and meeting statutory filing deadlines
• Providing support and guidance to junior accounting staff when required

What we’re looking for

The ideal candidate will have:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related field
• At least two years of relevant accounting experience preferable in an accounting firm in New Zealand
• Proven experience in preparing annual financial statements, income tax and GST returns
• Proficiency in Xero and MYOB
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and compliance requirements
• Strong organisational and time-managementt skills
• Ability to prioritise task and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and perform effectively under time pressure
• Excellent communication and client management skills
