Job summary

AWF Group is recruiting for an Assembly Technician in Onehunga, Auckland. The role involves wind­ing high-temperature superconducting coils and assembling complex electro-mechanical hardware for cutting-edge space technology applications.

You will perform precise manual assembly, soldering and testing in a cryogenic lab environment. The ideal candidate has experience in precision mechanical/electrical assembly, reads technical drawings, and works well with engineering and R&D teams to deliver

Qualifications

  • Experience in precision mechanical, electrical, electronic, or electromechanical assembly.
  • Ability to perform detailed hands-on work such as coil winding, soldering, fine assembly.
  • Strong understanding of quality standards and accuracy in technical manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Wind HTS magnet coils to exact specifications for precision assemblies.
  • Assemble complex electromechanical hardware and superconducting magnet components.
  • Perform manual soldering, bonding, masking, and fine assembly on delicate parts.
  • Conduct quality inspections, functional testing, and troubleshoot assemblies and fixtures.
  • Prepare materials, clean components, and support manufacturing in a cryogenic lab environment.

Assembly Technician | Fixed Term 3-6 Months | Onehunga

AWF's client is at the forefront of advanced space technology, developing cutting-edge superconducting magnetic systems for use in next-generation spacecraft and space infrastructure. This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled Assembly Technician to join a specialist team manufacturing precision hardware in a research and development environment.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Wind high-temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet coils to exact specifications, ensuring exceptional precision and consistency
  • Assemble complex electromechanical hardware and superconducting magnet components used in advanced space technology applications
  • Perform manual soldering, bonding, masking, and fine assembly work on delicate components and assemblies
  • Conduct quality inspections, functional testing, and troubleshooting of assemblies, fixtures, and hardware to identify and rectify faults
  • Prepare materials, clean components, complete production documentation, and support manufacturing activities within a laboratory and cryogenic environment

What You Need

  • Experience in precision mechanical, electrical, electronic, or electromechanical assembly within a manufacturing, laboratory, aerospace, medical device, or similar environment
  • Proven ability to perform detailed hands‑on work such as coil winding, soldering, fine assembly, or intricate component manufacturing
  • Strong understanding of quality standards, inspection processes, and the importance of accuracy in technical manufacturing
  • Experience using testing equipment and following technical drawings, assembly instructions, or documented procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem‑solving ability, and a collaborative approach to working with engineering, production, and R&D teams
