Job summary

Tradestaff New Zealand in Dunedin is seeking a motivated Apprentice Flooring Installer to join a busy local team. You will work on a range of residential and commercial projects, building hands-on skills in measuring, cutting, fitting, and installing floor coverings.

Job description

Apprentice Flooring Installer

We’re looking for a motivated Apprentice Flooring Installer to join a busy Dunedin team working across a variety of residential and commercial projects. This is a great opportunity for someone who has completed a relevant pre-trade or has solid practical or handyman experience and wants to build a career in the flooring industry.

Location: Central Dunedin, Dunedin

Start date: ASAP

Pay rate: $26–$28 per hour depending on experience – weekly pay

What you’ll be doing:

• Measuring and preparing areas ready for flooring installation
• Learning to measure, cut, fit, apply and secure a range of floor coverings
• Assisting with the preparation of subfloors for installation
• Mixing and applying resin flooring under guidance
• Helping repair damaged floor coverings
• Assisting with the installation and sanding of timber floors
• Learning to safely use specialised flooring tools and equipment

What we’re looking for:

• A relevant pre-trade qualification OR solid practical/handyman experience
• A genuine interest in learning the flooring trade and developing your skills
• Good attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately
• Reasonable physical fitness and the ability to undertake hands-on work
• Ability to work well with others and perform effectively in a busy environment
• Basic maths skills and a practical approach to measuring and problem-solving
• A strong focus on health and safety

Working environment:

• Work across homes, commercial properties, refurbishments and new-build projects
• Regular local travel between job sites, with occasional travel further afield
• Work can involve dusty environments, adhesive fumes and other typical flooring-site conditions
• Hours are generally during regular business hours, although some projects may require longer or irregular hours
• The role is physically active and can involve lifting, bending, kneeling and working with flooring materials and equipment
