Job summary

Elkem seeks a Technology Manager Automation to lead corporate automation competence within Elkem Technology. You will ensure robust, safe, and standardized automation across production sites and projects, acting as the IACS authority and driving harmonization and improvements.

Travel to Elkem sites in Norway is required; the role reports to Head of Electrical & Automation. The position emphasizes technology leadership, governance, and collaboration with operations, maintenance, and project teams

Qualifications

• MSc in Automation, Cybernetics, Control Systems or similar.
• At least 10 years of relevant industrial experience.
• Strong technical expertise in automation systems and lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Act as corporate discipline advisor for IACS, providing guidance and reviews across plants and projects.
• Drive harmonization, standardization and best practices in automation strategies and roadmaps.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance and projects to improve safety, reliability and performance.
• Lead modernization and end-of-life management of automation systems while ensuring safety requirements.

Job description

Elkem is continuously developing and improving its global industrial operations, with a strong focus on safety, digitalization, sustainability and operational excellence. As part of this journey, we are strengthening our corporate automation competence and are looking for a Technology Manager Automation to join Elkem Technology.

The position is part of Elkem's corporate Technology department Electrical & Automation and plays a key role in ensuring robust, safe and standardized automation solutions across Elkem's production sites and industrial projects.

You will serve as a corporate discipline authority for industrial automation and control systems (IACS), driving harmonization, standardization and continuous improvement across Elkem. The role combines technology leadership, discipline assurance and close collaboration with operations, maintenance organizations and project teams to ensure that solutions are not only technically sound, but practical, robust and delivering value in day-to-day operation.

• Act as corporate discipline advisor and assurance function for IACS, providing technical guidance, compliance verification and solution reviews for plants and projects.
• Drive harmonization, standardization and implementation of automation best practices across Elkem, including development and implementation of automation strategies, principles and technology roadmaps.
• Work closely with production sites, operations and maintenance organizations to identify automation needs, improvement opportunities and best-practice solutions that enhance safety, reliability and operational performance.
• Drive continuous improvement of automation solutions across Elkem, including lifecycle management, modernization of legacy systems, management of end-of-life challenges, and implementation of safety-related automation requirements in cooperation with technical safety resources.
• Contribute to Elkem's digitalization journey through robust industrial automation and control system solutions, while supporting competence development through mentoring, professional guidance and training initiatives.

You have:

• MSc degree in Automation, Cybernetics, Control Systems Engineering or similar, and at least 10 years of relevant industrial experience.
• Strong technical expertise in industrial automation systems, including PLC, DCS, SCADA, industrial networks and lifecycle management.
• Good understanding of process safety, HSE requirements and safety-related automation functions, combined with experience from industrial projects, operations and multidisciplinary engineering environments.
• Strong communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language, preferably Norwegian. Experience with standardization, governance and implementation of best practices across multiple sites is an advantage.
