Job summary

Elkem is strengthening its automation capabilities and seeks a Senior Project Engineer Automation to lead projects from concept through commissioning and ongoing optimization across Norway. The role sits in the Technology department Electrical & Automation and collaborates with project teams, plant organisations and other technology disciplines.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Automation, Cybernetics, or a related technical discipline with 10+ years industrial automation experience.
• Strong expertise in PLC, HMI, SCADA, industrial networks, and IACS.
• Experience with supplier follow-up, verification, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Strong English and Scandinavian language skills, preferably Norwegian.

Responsibilities

• Execute automation engineering activities in industrial projects.
• Act as project engineer or discipline resource within projects, including responsibility for automation and electrical work packages.
• Develop and review automation specifications, solution concepts and technical documentation.
• Follow up suppliers, verification activities and technical deliverables.
• Support troubleshooting, root cause analyses and corrective actions.
• Contribute to modernization and lifecycle improvement of existing automation systems.
• Ensure robust integration between automation, electrical, instrumentation and related systems.
• Contribute to standardization, continuous improvement and development of engineering methods and tools.

Job description

Elkem is continuously developing a large portfolio of industrial projects and improvement initiatives across its global production sites. To support this development, we are strengthening our competence within industrial automation and control systems (IACS).

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Engineer Automation with a strong technical background and passion for practical industrial solutions. You will participate in industrial projects from concept development to commissioning and support operational units with troubleshooting, optimization and modernization of automation systems.

The position is part of Elkem's corporate Technology department Electrical & Automation and works closely with projects, plant organizations and other technology disciplines.

• Execute automation engineering activities in industrial projects
• Act as project engineer, technical package lead or discipline resource within assigned projects, including responsibility for automation and, where appropriate, electrical work packages
• Develop and review automation specifications, solution concepts and technical documentation
• Follow up suppliers, verification activities and technical deliverables
• Support troubleshooting, root cause analyses and implementation of corrective actions
• Contribute to modernization and lifecycle improvement of existing automation systems
• Ensure robust integration between automation, electrical, instrumentation and related systems
• Contribute to standardization, continuous improvement and development of engineering methods and tools

You have:

• BSc or MSc degree in Automation, Cybernetics or a related technical discipline, combined with at least 10 years of relevant industrial experience within automation and control systems.
• Strong technical expertise in industrial automation systems, including PLC, HMI, SCADA, industrial networks, interfaces, system architecture and industrial control systems (IACS).
• Experience from industrial projects, including supplier follow-up, technical verification, troubleshooting, risk assessments and root cause analyses.
• Good understanding of automation, instrumentation and electrical systems. Candidates with experience from both automation and electrical engineering disciplines, including technical package responsibility for electrical scopes, will be particularly valued.
• Strong communication skills in English and a Scandinavian language, preferably Norwegian.
