Job summary

Vallum Associates seeks an experienced Sustainability & Environmental Manager to join the project leadership team on a major hyperscale Data Centre development in Norway. You will own the environmental and sustainability strategy and drive compliance with legislation, client ESG targets, and lifecycle delivery across design, procurement and construction.

This role requires Data Centre experience, strong stakeholder collaboration with design, construction teams and clients to embed sustainability

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Construction, Engineering or related discipline.
  • Previous experience in an Environmental Manager, Sustainability Manager or similar position in construction or engineering.
  • Experience working on Data Centres, mission-critical facilities, major industrial developments or large-scale construction projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, compliance and construction environmental management.
  • Experience developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems, ideally aligned with ISO 14001.
  • Knowledge of carbon management, waste reduction, sustainable materials and environmental reporting.
  • Understanding of sustainability certification frameworks such as BREEAM and/or LEED would be advantageous.
  • Experience working with General Contractors, subcontractors, consultants and client teams.
  • Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary construction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and manage the project's Environmental and Sustainability Management Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, client requirements and applicable European standards.
  • Lead environmental and sustainability initiatives throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Monitor and report on key sustainability metrics, including carbon emissions, energy consumption, water usage, waste and material efficiency.
  • Develop and manage strategies to reduce embodied and operational carbon across the project.
  • Work closely with design and engineering teams to incorporate sustainable solutions into project delivery.
  • Support sustainable procurement by assessing materials, suppliers and subcontractors against environmental requirements.
  • Manage construction waste strategies, including waste reduction, reuse, recycling and responsible disposal.
  • Monitor environmental risks associated with construction activities, including noise, dust, water, soil, pollution and biodiversity impacts.
  • Conduct environmental inspections, audits and compliance reviews across the project.
  • Manage environmental incidents, non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with contractors and subcontractors to ensure environmental standards are consistently maintained.
  • Support environmental permitting and engagement with relevant authorities where required.
  • Lead sustainability reporting and provide regular updates to the client and senior project leadership team.
  • Promote environmental awareness across the project and deliver sustainability/environmental training where required.
  • Support relevant green building and sustainability certification requirements, such as BREEAM, LEED or equivalent frameworks.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and help drive best practice across Data Centre construction activities.

We are seeking an experienced Sustainability & Environmental Manager to join the project leadership team on a major hyperscale Data Centre development. The successful candidate will take ownership of the project's environmental and sustainability strategy, ensuring construction activities are delivered in accordance with environmental legislation, client sustainability requirements and wider project ESG objectives.

Working closely with the Project Director, construction teams, design teams, subcontractors and client stakeholders, you will drive environmental performance throughout the project lifecycle and ensure sustainability requirements are embedded across design, procurement and construction.
