Job summary

Lace Lithography is scaling its Bergen team to hire a Senior Experimental Physicist/Engineer who will lead the Source squad and drive core beamline technologies. Based in Bergen with regular travel to key locations, the role combines leadership with hands-on hardware development in a high-vacuum environment.

Working alongside physicists, chemists and engineers, you will plan, implement, and lead activities to meet the technology roadmap, while mentoring junior team members and documenting

Qualifications

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related technical subject.
• At least 3 years working on instrument development in industry or academia.
• Experience leading technical teams on complex projects (2–3 years).
• Hands-on experience with high or ultrahigh vacuum hardware and instrumentation.
• Demonstrable track record of delivering R&D projects from conception to completion.
• Experience with molecular/atom beams and charged particle beams.
• Desirable: CAD software proficiency (SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
• Desirable: experience working with lasers and optics.

Responsibilities

• Develop, refine and execute Technology Development strategy for atom beams, coordinating physicists and engineers.
• Design, develop, and test complex instrumentation for high-vacuum conditions.
• Conduct tests to verify system parameters.
• Write Python scripts to analyze data and automate experiments.
• Prepare technical documentation and reports for distribution.
• Develop company IP by solving beam physics, vacuum and diagnostics problems.
• Translate strategy into deliverables and delegate tasks to junior team members.
• Forecast skill gaps and lead hiring, interviewing, and onboarding.
