Job summary

Essentia, the Trust’s operational and infrastructure delivery group, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide leadership and technical authority for electrical infrastructure across the estate. You will oversee safety, compliance, risk management and resilience of electrical assets, and lead asset lifecycle planning and stakeholder engagement to improve performance and value for money.

Job description

Essentia, part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to provide professional leadership and technical authority for electrical infrastructure across the Trust’s estate. The role will safeguard patient and staff wellbeing by overseeing technical standards, statutory compliance, risk management and resilience across critical electrical assets and systems.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of the country’s largest and busiest NHS trusts, comprising Guy’s, St Thomas’, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Royal Brompton and Harefield, alongside community services in Lambeth and Southwark. Its clinical services are supported by a complex, operationally critical estate where safety, resilience and the patient experience are paramount.

Essentia is the Trust’s operational and infrastructure delivery group. Working across the Trust’s hospital, community and partner sites, it brings together engineering, estates, capital development, facilities management, digital technology and other essential services to maintain safe, resilient and high-performing healthcare environments.

The successful candidate will demonstrate substantial expertise in the management, maintenance and development of complex electrical infrastructure within large, operationally critical environments, including experience of high-voltage networks. They will lead estate assurance and compliance, support asset lifecycle planning and infrastructure investment, and drive continuous improvement in safety, resilience, performance and value for money.

Candidates should hold relevant professional qualifications and training, ideally including an electrical engineering degree and professional membership or Chartered Engineer status, alongside Authorised Person duties for HV and LV. Strong knowledge of healthcare engineering standards, including Health Technical Memoranda, will be important. The appointed individual will be a confident, methodical and resilient leader who can explain technical risk clearly, engage and influence stakeholders, and demonstrate Essentia’s caring, ambitious and inclusive values.
