Job summary

Skarv Technologies AS in Trondheim is seeking a Senior R&D Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the mechanical design of our autonomous underwater vehicles, from concept and CAD through prototyping and verification.

You will design pressure-rated subsea enclosures, work with production, and contribute to architectural decisions while collaborating across software, electronics, and autonomy teams. The role offers waterfront testing and subsidized lunch.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Several years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
Strong CAD skills including assemblies and drawing production.
Experience with design for subsea, pressure-rated equipment, including sealing solutions and material selection.
Experience with structural and strength calculations and technical assessments.
Experience with verification and testing of mechanical solutions.
Experience with technical documentation and revision control.
Familiarity with relevant standards and requirements for subsea equipment.
Experience with FEA and simulation tools.
Knowledge of PLM systems.

Responsibilities

Lead and contribute to the mechanical architecture of our AUV platforms: define structure, interfaces, and technical direction across subsystems.
Perform mechanical design and 3D modelling of components, subassemblies, and complete vehicle structures.
Design pressure-rated housings, sealing solutions, and ruggedized subsea structures.
Carry out material selection, tolerance analysis, and strength and structural assessments.
Produce and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and revision control for designs.
Design for manufacture and assembly in close cooperation with production teams.
Plan and follow up verification and testing of mechanical solutions.
Coordinate the technical priorities of the mechanical team with the CTO.
Collaborate across disciplines with software, electronics, and autonomy engineers on integration and interface design.
Possible field testing in Trondheim fjord and nationally/internationally.
