Job description

Company Overview

Our client is a leading international main contractor with a substantial European footprint and a delivery record built on some of the largest and most technically demanding construction programmes currently under way. Their reputation sits firmly in the hyperscale space, where clients measure a contractor on certainty of delivery above almost any other criterion.

The business operates as principal contractor on major multi-building campuses, taking full responsibility for the CSA scope alongside coordination of the wider delivery ecosystem. That model demands genuine depth in self-delivery capability, supply chain control and programme management — attributes that take years to build and which have secured them repeat appointment from a small group of demanding global end users.

Norway and the wider Nordic region have become a focal point for hyperscale investment, supported by abundant low-carbon power, a naturally favourable climate for cooling efficiency and a stable regulatory environment. Our client is positioned at the centre of that expansion, with a secured pipeline extending across multiple sites and several years.

Growth of this scale creates real senior leadership demand, and the business has a track record of retaining and promoting the directors who deliver for them. Appointments at this level are made with succession in mind: strong performers move into multi-project and regional responsibility rather than being recycled from one scheme to the next.

Working Environment & Projects

You will hold overall directorial responsibility for the delivery of major civil, structural and architectural packages on hyperscale data centre construction. Scope typically spans enabling works and earthworks, deep foundations and substructure, structural frame, envelope and cladding, internal architectural fit-out, external works and the full suite of interfaces to the electrical, mechanical and specialist packages that follow.

Hyperscale delivery is defined by the combination of scale, repetition and absolute programme discipline. Buildings are frequently delivered in sequence across a campus, which places a premium on establishing the right methodology early, driving learning curve efficiency through subsequent phases and holding tolerance and quality standards consistently across a very large volume of work. Milestone dates are fixed and commercially unforgiving.

You will lead a substantial project organisation spanning construction, engineering, planning, commercial, procurement, quality and HSQE, working alongside client representatives, design teams and follow‑on trade contractors. As principal contractor, safety leadership across a large and diverse site population sits with you, and it is treated as a directorial responsibility rather than a delegated function.

Norwegian delivery brings specific considerations: ground conditions and rock excavation, winter working and seasonal sequencing, local permitting and labour regulation, and a supply chain that operates to its own established norms. The role is rotational with accommodation and travel fully covered, which allows senior candidates to take on a major international appointment without relocating.

Responsibilities
  • Take overall directorial responsibility for the delivery of the full CSA scope on hyperscale data centre construction
  • Own the CSA master programme, driving methodology, sequencing and phase‑on‑phase efficiency across the campus
  • Lead the project organisation across construction, engineering, planning, commercial, procurement, quality and HSQE
  • Direct subcontract procurement and package strategy, and manage supply chain performance throughout delivery
  • Hold principal contractor safety leadership across a large multi‑trade site population
  • Own the senior client relationship and represent the business at project board and executive level
  • Take full accountability for commercial performance, including budget, forecast, change, risk and final account
  • Manage the interface and handover sequence to electrical, mechanical and specialist follow‑on packages
  • Oversee quality assurance and tolerance control across high‑volume repetitive structural and architectural works
  • Report performance, risk and financial position to executive leadership and contribute to regional delivery strategy
What You Need
  • Proven experience at Project Director level, or as a senior Project Manager ready to step up, with a main contractor
  • Strong main contractor background with genuine principal contractor accountability on major projects
  • Demonstrable track record directing large‑scale CSA delivery across substructure, frame, envelope and fit‑out
  • Previous data centre, life sciences, semiconductor or similarly complex project experience
  • Substantial commercial capability, with ownership of budget, change, risk and final account at project level
  • Proven ability to lead large project organisations and manage major subcontract supply chains
  • Credible senior client manager, comfortable at project board and executive level with demanding end users
  • Exemplary safety leadership across large multi‑trade site environments
  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline preferred
  • International or Nordic project experience is beneficial but not essential
  • Willingness to work on a rotational basis from a Norwegian project location
What You'll Get in Return

A salary of €160,000 is on offer alongside rotational working with accommodation and all travel between home and project location fully covered, supported by executive‑level benefits including pension, healthcare and performance‑related bonus. The structure means the headline figure holds its value rather than being absorbed by the living and travel costs that usually accompany international appointments.

The business is expanding its European delivery leadership against a secured hyperscale pipeline, and there is a defined route into multi‑project and regional director responsibility, board‑level involvement and long‑term equity participation for individuals who deliver consistently. Progression here is tied to a pipeline that already exists rather than to speculative future growth.

The credential itself carries considerable weight. Directing CSA delivery on hyperscale campuses is a narrow and highly sought‑after profile, and the combination of scale, principal contractor accountability and Nordic execution experience positions candidates strongly across the European market for the remainder of the current investment cycle.
