Job summary

NTNU in Trondheim invites applications for a fully funded 4-year PhD position in the Department of Architecture and Planning. The candidate will explore AI and XR in societal readiness for climate risks, collaborating with the IE department and external partners.

Supervision includes NTNU professors and a vibrant research team. Strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research, data-driven methods, and participatory approaches.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in urban planning or architecture with 120 credits.
  • Documentation of an average grade equal to or better than B on NTNU scale.
  • Eligibility for admission to the Doctoral Programme in Architecture.
  • Excellent oral and written English communication.
  • Quality and focus of the proposed project with clear research questions and design.

Responsibilities

  • Complete doctoral education leading to a PhD degree.
  • Identify case studies and collect relevant datasets.
  • Co-create vulnerability narratives through participatory methods.
  • Apply spatial modelling and AI to generate risk maps.
  • Analyze AI-driven scenarios against urban planning tools.
  • Develop methodological recommendations for societal readiness.
  • Publish academic works and engage in science communication.
  • Undertaken teaching and other duties as agreed with supervisor.
  • Contribute to CREST GLOBAL and future research applications.
