Job summary

NTNU – Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim invites applications for a fully funded four-year PhD position in the Department of Architecture and Planning. Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in urban planning or architecture (5-year Norwegian Master, 120 credits).
  • Strong English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Norwegian language skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Complete doctoral education leading to a PhD degree.
  • Identify case studies on risk and vulnerability; collect relevant data.
  • Co-create vulnerability narratives through participatory research with stakeholders.
  • Apply spatial modelling tools (GIS) alongside AI-based techniques to generate risk maps.
  • Analyze and validate AI-generated scenarios against state-of-the-art planning tools; mitigate biases.
  • Develop methodological recommendations for societal readiness of technology in urban planning.
  • Publish academic work and disseminate to wider audiences.
  • Engage in teaching or other academic duties as agreed with supervisor.
  • Contribute to developing the CREST GLOBAL research group and future projects.
