Job summary

NTNU invites applications for a fully funded 4-year PhD position in the Department of Architecture and Planning, anchored in the CREST-GLOBAL team. The project investigates how AI, machine learning and XR shape urban planning and societal readiness for climate risks, with emphasis on intersectionality and vulnerability.

You will join an international research environment, contribute to publications and teaching duties, and develop methodological approaches within a multidisciplinary context.

Qualifications

  • Strong academic background with average grade equal to B or better.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English.
  • Admission to the Doctoral Programme in Architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Complete doctoral education leading to a PhD degree.
  • Identify case studies on risk and vulnerability; collect relevant data.
  • Co-create vulnerability narratives via participatory research.
  • Apply spatial modelling tools (GIS) and AI-based techniques to generate maps.
  • Analyze AI-generated scenarios against state-of-the-art tools.
  • Develop methodological recommendations for societal readiness of technology in urban planning.
  • Academic publications and dissemination.
  • Undertaken teaching or other academic duties as agreed.
  • Contribute to CREST GLOBAL and future research applications.
