Job summary

NTNU in Trondheim invites applications for a PhD position in AI-enhanced planning for shipbuilding supply chains, within the Norwegian Maritime AI Centre. You will work on real-time and historical data to coordinate operations, with supervision by Prof. Erlend Alfnes.

The role combines qualitative and quantitative research methods, collaborates with industry partners, and aims to publish in top journals while pursuing a doctoral degree.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and oral English language skills.
  • Experience in using qualitative methodologies (case studies, design science) and quantitative methodologies (simulation, analytics).
  • Experience with machine learning or other relevant AI technologies.
  • Scandinavian language skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Complete the doctoral education until obtaining a doctorate.
  • Carry out research within AI-enhanced planning for shipbuilding supply chains.
  • Apply qualitative methodologies to gain insights into engineer-to-order shipbuilding.
  • Apply quantitative methodologies to develop decision support for production planning.
  • Publish results in recognised journals and present at international conferences.
  • Participate in NTNU's Production Management Research Group and Norwegian Maritime AI Centre activities.
