Job summary

NTNU in Ålesund invites applications for a PhD Candidate in trustworthy agentic artificial intelligence. The project sits at the intersection of AI, autonomy and maritime technology, with access to maritime data and close collaboration with industry partners.

You will develop open-weight model approaches, ensure safety and transparency, and contribute to the Norwegian Maritime AI Center. The position includes coursework and publishing within CPS Lab and allied research groups.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree must be earned before starting.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and ML frameworks.
  • Experience with agentic AI and safety-focused research.

Responsibilities

  • Research trustworthy agentic AI using open-weight models.
  • Develop methods for reliable and accountable agent behaviour.
  • Validate methods with maritime case studies.
  • Publish academic works and engage with CPS Lab.
  • Collaborate with Maritime AI Centre and industry partners.
  • Take courses totaling at least 30 ECTS.
