Job summary

NTNU in Trondheim seeks a PhD Candidate to join the Norwegian Maritime AI Centre. You will work on AI-enhanced planning in shipbuilding supply chains, combining qualitative and quantitative methods to support real-time and historical data analysis for decision-makers.

The position includes doctoral education, collaboration with industry, and opportunities to publish in international journals. A 3-year PhD with supervisor Prof.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Industrial Engineering or related field and documented before 1 Dec 2026.
• Strong academic record with grade equal to B or better on NTNU's scale.
• Excellent written and oral English language skills.
• Ability to obtain NATO security clearance for access to partner facilities.

Responsibilities

• Complete the doctoral education until obtaining a doctorate.
• Carry out research of good quality within the framework described above.
• Apply qualitative methodologies (case studies, literature reviews) to AI-enhanced planning in engineer-to-order shipbuilding.
• Apply quantitative methodologies (simulation, analytical modelling, AI-driven techniques) to develop decision support for production planning and coordination.
• Take part in the mandatory PhD research education program.
• Conduct independent research and publish results in recognised journals and present at international conferences.
• Participate in Norwegian Maritime AI Centre activities and the Production Management research group.
• Be prepared for changes to your work duties after employment.
