Job summary

NTNU invites applications for a PhD Candidate position to conduct research on artificial intelligence for planning in shipbuilding supply chains. The PhD will develop AI methods to help coordinate operations, analyze data, and support decision-makers across multi-project supply chains in engineer-to-order shipbuilding.

You will join the Production Management Research Group and collaborate with industry and public partners within the Norwegian Maritime AI Centre, supervised by Professor Erlend

Qualifications

  • Master's degree must be obtained before starting the position (by 1 Dec 2026).
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills.
  • Ability to obtain NATO security clearance for access to partner facilities.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods in operations and supply chains.

Responsibilities

  • Complete doctoral education until doctorate.
  • Carry out high-quality AI-enhanced planning research for shipbuilding supply chains.
  • Apply qualitative and quantitative methodologies to develop decision-support for production planning.
  • Publish results in recognized journals and present at international conferences.
  • Collaborate with industry and public partners within the Norwegian Maritime AI Centre.
