Job summary

NTNU in Trondheim invites applications for a PhD candidate position within the Norwegian Centre for Embodied AI (NCEI). The role focuses on hybrid learning–control architectures for autonomous underwater manipulation, combining data-driven learning with model-based control for safe, reliable operation in real-world environments.

You will work under supervisors Kristin Y. Pettersen and Jan Tommy Gravdahl, engage in international collaboration, and contribute to a dynamic robotics and AI research

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in cybernetics, control systems, or equivalent with strong marine robotics control background.
  • English proficiency documented via TOEFL/IELTS/CAE/CPE if not mother tongue.
  • Admission to PhD program at NTNU Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Complete doctoral education leading to the PhD degree.
  • Publish high-quality research within the project framework.
  • Participate in international conferences and research stays.
  • Collaborate with department and across NTNU; supervise master’s theses.
  • Possible extension for teaching duties upon agreement.
