Job summary

NTNU seeks a PhD candidate to develop efficient hybrid learning–control methods for autonomous underwater manipulation within the Norwegian Centre for Embodied AI (NCEI). You will contribute to safe, robust, and scalable robotic systems, collaborating with international partners and supervising master’s theses.

The position is three years, with possible extension for teaching duties, under Professor Kristin Y. Pettersen and co-supervisor Professor Jan Tommy Gravdahl.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in cybernetics/control systems or equivalent (5-year Norwegian program, 120 credits).
  • Strong academic excellence with average grade B or better. English proficiency required if not mother tongue.
  • Admission to NTNU's PhD program in Engineering Cybernetics is required within three months of start.

Responsibilities

  • Complete doctoral education leading to the PhD.
  • Conduct and publish high-quality research within the project scope.
  • Participate in international conferences and research stays.
  • Collaborate across NTNU departments and supervise master’s theses.
